When the Department Becomes Involved

Contact from the Department for Child Protection can be frightening, particularly if your children have been removed, or you have been told the Department is applying to the Youth Court for orders. You have rights in this process, and getting advice early can make a real difference to what happens next.

I will explain what the Department is asking for, what the Court can and cannot do, and what your options are. Then I will stand beside you through meetings, conferences and court hearings.

I can help with

  • Advice as soon as the Department contacts you or removes your children
  • Representing you when the Department applies to the Youth Court for care and protection orders
  • Family group conferences and meetings with the Department
  • Contact arrangements with your children while orders are in place
  • Working towards reunification, including what the Department and the Court will expect of you
  • Applications to vary or revoke orders

Legal Aid

I accept Legal Aid matters for child protection. If you are eligible, I can help you apply, and then represent you under your Legal Aid grant.
